The Gallay Artisan Winery was founded in 2012 and it focuses mainlyon “high end” artisan wines. The winery was named after the owner, Roland’s grandmother. This is a family farm working on 12 hectares in the heart of the Bükk appellation. All vineyards are of superior quality, the soil is heavy clay (finest riolit tuff) and limestone. Farming is sustainable, but partially organic with 2 hectares of Zenit and 1,5 hectares of Kabar. The wines are made with a “hands off” approach, fermentation is done with native indigenous yeast and all wines are aged on lees until bottling. Only small lots, about 1000-2000 bottles, are made from each variety. Production is targeted at restaurants and wine bars. Gallay Nyékládháza 2015 and Gallay Blanc 2016 were both included on the list ofthe 12 best Hungarian white wines selected by the Hungarian wine writers.
